Who are we?
Angelika
Even during her medical studies, Angelika was interested in distant countries and exotic cultures.
During her training as a gynecologist, she spent several months vaccinating in the Philippines.
In Australia she made two sailing trips to the Whitsunday Islands and was fascinated by sailing from then on.
First followed smaller sailing trips in the Baltic Sea and then another sailing trip in Greece brought a decisive turn.
With the meeting of John plans for larger sailing trips were forged and finally the idea of a world circumnavigation arose.
After many years of planning and further sailing trips in the Mediterranean Sea Angelika sold her partnership in a joint practice.
Since the beginning of 2020 she has lived full time on “Maya”.
She is enthusiastic about the boat life and the relaxed pace of travel.
John
John is a native of the United Kingdom and started sailing when he was a few years younger than he is now. He has more than 25 years and more than 20,000 sea miles sailing experience with 15 years spent sailing as a professional Skipper around the Greek and Turkish coastlines.
Prior to this he was an IT support specialist but took the chance to retire very early and has never looked back.
He is a qualified RYA (Officially recognised UK sail training group) Skipper and will happily give unofficial instruction on how to sail the yacht.
He is also rather good with electrical work, electronics, mechanical work and generally fixing things that break on boats (and other places).
Unfortunately varnishing, woodwork and fibreglass work are all sadly lacking in his bag of skills.
